The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Sfax will host the activities of the 22nd edition of the “Book and Creation Days” over a period of six full days starting on Friday, March the 4th. This edition is organized in partnership with the University of Sfax and is distinguished by its opulent and diverse intellectual content. The event’s program will include the presentation of nearly twenty new books, most of which were written by the faculty’s professors, in addition to lectures, poetry sessions, study days, competitions among students, training workshops, and cultural and sporting activities (details in the accompanying scheme).
The aforementioned activities are also held in parallel with a book fair in the reading hall, which is one of the sedentary and important stations of the event given the richness of the books presented to the students, professors and researchers. According to the Director of Studies at the Faculty, Mr. Sofiane Chaari, this edition is considered as: “a field that allows all research structures and scientific disciplines from different departments to display their intellectual creativity.” Added to that: “since the cancelation of last year’s edition because of the pandemic circumstances, this year witnessed a huge turnout concerning the various cultural and intellectual works created by both professors and students”
In addition to the official opening speeches, the big launch, corresponding to Friday March the 4th, will be held at “Ibn Khaldoun” auditorium with the presence of the President of the University of Sfax and the Dean of the Faculty, along with a group of professors and authors who will supervise the presentations of the first book lectures, followed by the initiation of the first poetry slam event, later that evening. The rest of the venues, namely; Al-Masadi Hall, Al-Haddad Hall, Markaz Al Mawared Hall and Al Jawda Hall will host numerous cultural activities, including formative workshops and artistic performances interspersed with discussion sessions. Thursday, March the 10th, will be devoted for a study day comprising six interventions entitled: “the Pandemic and its Influence on Social Sciences and Literature.” which will also mark the end of the “Book and Creation Days”.
Thus, the faculty’s yards and open spaces will likely be transformed into a theater for live workshops in which creativity is celebrated in every shape and colour. In this regard, an event with an international dimension for cultural exchange will be presented in the main yard under the title “International Day“, organized by USTAND CLUB of the English Department. This event aims to celebrate foreign students of different nationalities, ages, specialties and backgrounds. In addition, this club will also organize in the same square a cultural entertainment activity that seeks to encourage reading, entitled “Read & Taste”.
In unison with the creative workshops, book presentations, lectures and training sessions, which mainly focus on communication techniques and skills, the new edition of “Book and Creation Days” will also include two contests organized by the administration of the faculty and the University of Sfax with the aim of developing and improving students’ efficiency and productivity. The first competition revolves around “Creativity in the Time of the Pandemic” and is open to all students of the twenty academic institutions of Sfax, noting that the areas of participation in this contest are divided into “Journalistic Articles”, “Poetry and Storytelling” “Visual Art”, “Photography”, “Scientific Creativity” and “Digital Creativity”. As for the second contest, it concerns the masters’ degree students in multi-platform journalism, and it will honour the best journalistic coverage of the occurring event, involving the multifarious genres of multimedia journalism. The Cross-Media students will anticipatedly start an electronic media platform concurrently with the event under the supervision of their professors. Moreover, it is also expected that the WEB radio project that was created in the 21st edition of the “Book and Creation Days” will be reinvigorated. This Radio was intended to ensure the applied training of the students of the master’s degree in multi-platform journalism and facilitate their integration into professional life”
